Changes impact harness turnover
Turnover topped $3m for harness racing meetings in this country last week, though it was well down on the same time last year.
There were five meetings in all with latest figures from the TAB showing that Addington's Friday meeting attracted the most betting at $1,008,802.
But that figure was well down on the corresponding meeting last year. This was due mainly to the changes to the racing calendar.
In 2021 the meeting hosted a number of Sires Stakes' and Listed races including the Group One Nevele R Fillies Series Final and the NZB Standardbred Harness Million 2YO series.
Those races will be run later this year.
Cambridge's Thursday meeting was second with $700,948, followed by Ashburton (Sunday) $679,446, Winton (Saturday) $475,614, and Addington (Tuesday) $408,759.
The weekly turnover was $3,273,568, down from $4,296,363 in 2021.
