Classie Brigade wins second Maurice Holmes Vase

Classie Brigade has won his second Maurice Holmes Vase and booked himself a start in the New Zealand Cup at Addington on Tuesday, November 9.

At Addington on Friday night, the odds on favourite stepped well in the 2600 metre Group Three feature and went straight  to the lead.

He then held on gallantly for career win number 30 from 74 starts for trainers Robert and Jenna Dunn.

Second was stablemate Henry Hubert, with Di Caprio third and A G White Socks finishing fourth, after a tardy start and being last early.

It was driver John Dunn’s fifth win on the night.

After dominating the early races on the card Dunn was only third with superstar trotter Sundees Son in the Basil Dean Mobile Free For All a race before the Maurice Holmes Vase.

That race was won by Vacation Hill, paying $14.

Classie Brigade also won the Maurice Holmes Vase, a traditional lead-up race to the New Zealand Cup, in 2019.

Last year Self Assured won the Vase, before going on to win the New Zealand Cup.

Classie Brigade’s best result so far in a New Zealand Cup has been a third behind Cruz Bromac and Spankem in 2019.
