Fred Scott issues Blue September challenge

Fred Scott has a challenge for everyone involved in the Banks Peninsula Trotting Club’s meeting on the grass at Motukarara this Sunday.

The North Canterbury based trainer has two horses racing at the meeting, Takemybreathaway in race 9, and Take After Me in race 10. He bred, co-owns and trains both horses.

If either of them get in the top four he’s pledged to donate half his stakes earnings to HRNZ’s Blue September campaign. It’s the first time HRNZ has been involved in the annual Prostate Cancer Foundation fund-raiser, with the total so far standing at $10,600. Sunday's meeting is the campaign's last Canterbury-based meeting.

Now Scott wants other trainers, owners and drivers to follow his lead.

“It would be great if others get involved,” says Scott, “it’s a great cause and it will add a bit of interest to the day.”

“They don’t have to give 50 per cent, just whatever they can afford, anything they can put in would be great.”

Scott feels especially connected to the campaign as his son, trainer Glenn Scott lost his own battle to cancer in May.

“Glenn didn’t have prostate cancer but most people have someone who’s been lost to cancer so I just urge people to get involved.”
