Hector makes it win number 44.

The remarkable Hectorjayjay is back in the winner’s circle.

Last night the rising 10-year-old, paying $2.50, dispatched a small field over 1660 metres at Albion Park in New South Wales. It was career win number 44 but his first in two years.

The million-dollar earner has been plagued with suspensory ligament problems and is now in the care of trainer Jack Butler, after previous stints with Simone Walker, David Aiken, Gavin Lang and Matt Craven.

The winning margin was over five lengths with the in-form Major Cam and Glenferrie Hood filling the minors. It was Glenferrie Hood who beat Hector fresh up a week ago in his comeback race.

"Absolutely stoked," Butler said. "It was an unbelievable feeling after the race. I was pretty shaky, I've got to admit. My heart was going 100 miles an hour. But it's a big thrill for us. It's been nine months of work to get him back and the whole team has put in a huge effort."

More free-for-alls are in the pipeline through May and June, with Butler saying everybody just has to enjoy the ride while it lasts.
