CATHERINE MCDONALD

Title: General Manager - Racing & Marketing

Role/Duties: To oversee all aspects of racing: change of racing programme; venue inspections; dates; handicapping; licencing and registrations etc and lead the Marketing team 

How long have you worked at HRNZ? 1 year

Are you involved in racing outside of work? If so how? Yes, I have been involved in Harness throughout my life plus Thoroughbred racing the last ten years. I currently have a share in a rising 2YO pacing filly, a thoroughbred mare and foal and yearling. I would love to get a trotter in the future.

What are your hobbies? Art Quilting, travel and watching cricket

Favourite horse from past or present? Difficult as so many: Le Chant and Stylish Major; Lord Module and Bonnies Chance; however Master Musician has the personal connection so he would come out on top

What was your first paying job? Computer Programmer for Databank

Favourite holiday destination? USA – I have been to 18 states and there is still so much to see

What do you like most about your job? The people and the horses. I love the passion in our sport.

What is something that not many people know about you? At 15 I was thrown out the back window of a car in a car accident and got up and walked away with no broken bones!
